Warden Preview
With the upcoming Basic Rules v1.4.1 update, the Warden will be added to the list of playable classes. Take a look at the current version by downloading the PDF below.
The Warden class is very similar in many ways to the Druid class from Dungeons & Dragons 5e. Many of the class features are identical, with the exception of one of the core features: Wild Shape. This one small change makes a big difference to how the class works. The class is being posted now in hopes of feedback before it is finally released with the next Basic Rules update. You can leave your comments below, or join the discussion in Discord.
When looking through the class and providing feedback, please be aware of a few of the following things:
While both the Druid and the Warden have access to medium armor, the Warden can wear all types of medium armor and isn't restricted from wearing metals. This allows the warden to be slightly more resilient.
The 2nd level feature Mark of Balance feels a bit lack luster to me, but it does gain some pretty strong effects based on your subclass - consider those features as well when looking at its usefulness.
There are 6 subclasses currently shown for the Warden. Ideally, the Basic Rules will only include 3 subclasses, so indicating your favorite and least favorite is important.
Since there is so much stuff, it might be good to read bits at a time, or focus on the subclass you find most interesting.
I think there are some pretty fun features involved in this class and am excited to share this with you. A lot of the subclasses are inspired by how the Warden class works and feels in the Elder Scrolls Online - you can see some hints of this in the Conclave of Balance, the Conclave of Companions, and the Conclave of Nature's Embrace. Some of the other conclaves are based on lore from the Elder Scrolls universe. The Conclave of the Wild draws on the shapeshifting nature of Y'ffre's blessed, while the Conclave of Spinners gives the Bosmeri story tellers a chance to shine. Finally, the Conclave of Battle attempts to bring more of the guardian out of the Warden.
I hope this class inspires your adventures and I look forward to your feedback.
