Kvatch Arena Map

One of the first places my players arrived at in Tamriel is Kvatch (4E202). Kvatch has come a long way in the last 200 years, after it was nearly decimated in 3E433. With the war raging on between the Empire and the Aldmeri Dominion, the civil war in Skryim, the loss of an ally in Hammerfell, and the unrest going on in Morrowind, the people of Cyrodiil are in definite need of letting out some steam. There is absolutely no better place to do that than in the Arena.

The new Kvatch arena has been built similar to the Imperial City's arena, although slightly less in scale. You can think of the Imperial City as the big leagues, and Kvatch as the juniors. Whether the contenders are fighting wolves, trolls, or other combatants, the Arena has all of the bells and whistles to entertain even the most discriminating of fans.

KVATCH ARENA

A. Main Hall

The main entry is flanked by two massive columns, adorned with flags with the dire wolf emblem of Kvatch. A 25 foot wide gate of 1" diameter iron bars is typically left open during events, and found closed at all other times. Chain winches lift the gate, with the mechanisms housed inside the hall, behind the massive stone columns. This area is used as a gathering space before the event, where fans and combatants can meet each other before the fight.

Two sets of stairs are found to the North and South of the main hall. The stairs going upwards lead to the viewing stands above. The stairs going down lead to the pit where combatants can get ready to prepare for battle.

B. Team Entrance

A gradual ramp leads from the pit below, up to a 15 foot wide by 15 foot high gate. The gate is made of heavy iron bars that retract into the sand covered floor to allow the team into the arena. This side is normally reserved for humanoid teams, including any players that have chosen to join the arena. The gate quickly raises up at the start of the battle, leaving the combatants locked inside until the fight ends.

C. Monster Entrance

Three gates can be found on the northern side of the arena, which are typically used for beasts that have been trapped and kept for battle. The main central gate is 15 feet wide, by 20 feet tall, with two smaller 10 foot wide by 15 foot tall gates on either side. On the north side of each of these gates are ramps leading to a small underground stable, which is separate from the combatant's pit accessed by the southern gates. This underground stable's main entrance is a large tunnel that can be accessed from outside of the cities gates.

Arena

The arena itself is a large circular, sand covered, open air coliseum, 85 feet in diameter. At the centre of the arena, there is large iron grate, which leads to a sewer below. The grate and the area around it is stained with the blood from hundreds of past battles. 4 large weapon racks circle the centre of the arena. Each rack contains, a pole arm, a battleaxe, a war axe, a mace, a longsword, 2 daggers, and a shield. The rack acts as half cover while standing behind it, and three-quarters cover if ducked behind it. There are also four 5-foot diameter columns, 20 feet high, within the arena.

The perimeter of the arena is blocked off by sharpened wood posts, which can be used to impale the combatants. Four braziers are found within these posts. Beyond the perimeter is a 30 foot high stone wall, which leads up to the viewing stands above.

Sand covers the ground of the arena, which is raked and maintained after each match. The sand allows for opportunity to hide all sorts of traps, for the viewing pleasure of the audience. These traps could be standard bear traps, explosive fire pillars, or even frenzy runes.

Standard battles include packs of wolves or goblin tribes, giants or armoured frost trolls imported from Skyrim, minotaurs or ogres. Of course, no arena is complete without your favourite Bosmer adorning fan.
